Privacy Policy
Vertly website and the Universal Video Downloader Chrome extension. Effective 6 October 2026.
This extension helps you save the videos, audio and subtitles on the web pages you visit. We collect only what is needed to do that, we never sell your data, and there are no ads, analytics or tracking in the extension. The website is paid for by ads; see The website and its ads.
What stays on your device
- Your settings (quality, file names, folder, theme).
- Your download history (titles, page addresses, file names). You can clear it at any time in the download manager.
- The list of videos found on each open tab. It is deleted when you leave or reload the page, or close the tab.
This information never leaves your browser.
What is sent to our download server
To download a video, the extension sends a request to our download server, which fetches the video and gives the file back to your browser.
| Sent | Why | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| The address of the page and of the video you chose to download, and the options you picked (quality, format, subtitles) | To fetch that video | The file is deleted as soon as your browser has saved it, and at the latest after 1 hour. Technical logs (page address, time, errors) are kept for up to 14 days to fix problems, then deleted. |
| Only if you turn on "Use my logins", and only for videos that need you to be signed in: that website's cookies | So the server can fetch a video you are allowed to watch on that site | Used only for that one download. Kept in a private temporary file while the download runs, deleted when it ends. Never written to logs. |
| A random ID created by the extension | So your downloads are kept apart from other people's | Not linked to your name, email or Google account. |
Nothing is sent until you press Download. The extension does not send your browsing history, and it does not read pages you have not asked it to download from.
Site sign-in (cookies)
Some videos can only be watched when you are signed in, for example a course you paid for. To download those, the server needs the same sign-in as the page. This is off until you turn on "Use my logins" in Settings. When it is on, the extension sends only the cookies of that one website, and only for that download. You can turn it off again at any time.
The website and its ads
This section is about this website only. The extension shows no ads.
When you paste a link on the website, that link and the options you pick are sent to our download server to find and fetch the media. They are handled and deleted the same way as extension downloads above. Your browser also keeps a random ID so the hourly limits apply to you and not to everyone. It is not linked to your name or email.
To keep the website free, it shows ads supplied by Adsterra. When an ad loads, Adsterra and its partners may receive information such as your IP address, browser and device details, and ad interactions. They may use cookies or similar technologies for ad delivery and measurement. Read Adsterra's cookies policy and privacy policy for details.
- use your browser settings to block or clear cookies and other site data;
- use an ad blocker to prevent third-party ad scripts from loading.
Who we share data with
Adsterra and its partners receive the information described above when ads load. We do not sell or rent your download data. The download server is run by us on a rented server (hosting provider: DigitalOcean, Singapore), which stores nothing beyond what is described above.
Security
All traffic between the extension and our server uses HTTPS.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
The use of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the extension's single purpose: downloading the videos you choose.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Important changes will also be shown in the extension.
